As a part of the ceramic trail in the municipality of 's-Hertogenbosch Cor Unum has been asked to develop a piece of art for de “Ploossche Hof”, a district in 's-Hertogenbosch . Cor Unum asked Joris Laarman to make the draft.
Joris defines his draft:
“For centuries ceramic work has been produced in a traditional way by different cultures all over the world. You often see that certain regions are known for their ceramic craftsmanship and ornamental patterns, in the same way as 's-Hertogenbosch distinguishes itself in The Netherlands. I want to represent the diversity of the districts by means of the decorations from the world of ceramics.
A dish antenna is actually a kind of parabolic mirror. Radio waves in the air are reflected to a receiver which is placed exactly in the focus of the dish. To make ceramic dishes function in this way the decoration of the standard glazing will have to be replaced by a glazing that reflects radio waves. We have chosen for a golden overglaze. The different and rich decorations symbolize the cultural diversity in the houses and living rooms in the “Ploossche Hof”.
